The Society is presently made up solely of volunteer, non-paid members. Current chairman is Normunds Kalniņš. During last 3 years the Society created and succesfully promoted several jazz and blues related projects. 1. 2008 – 2011. Mobile jazz & blues photo exhibition “Epson Roots and Fruits”. Besides a numerous exhibits in Latvia, the exhibition was demonstrated in several events in the Baltic States, including Int’l Klaipeda Jazz 2009 (LT) and Int’l Augustibluus Festival 2010 (EST). This is still the only travelling photography exhibit available in the Baltics that is solely dedicated to blues and jazz artists. The year 2012 will see the 2nd edition of the project. It will feature the photo collection depicting the history of development of blues and jazz in the Baltic region. More info can be found at www.rootsandfruits.lv 2. 2010 – 2011. “Int’l Sigulda Blues Festival”. Since 2010 Latvia has it’s own annual outdoor blues event, promoted by Latvian Blues Appreciation Society in cooperation with Sigulda District Municipality. Since 2011 the event incorporates National Blues Contest Finals. Besides the concerts the festival features open-air photo exhibition, Blues movies hall, as well as local food and craftsmen market. Right after the event the Blues Train departs from Sigulda Railway station to Riga Central with a jam session on board. More info can be found at www.bluesfest.lv 3. 2011. “Int’l Sigulda Jazz Festival”. Annual outdoor event in Sigulda, Latvia, promoted by Latvian Blues Appreciation Society in cooperation with Sigulda District Municipality. Besides the concerts the festival features master-classes, open-air photo exhibition, Jazz movie hall as well as local food and craftsmen market. Right after the event the ‘A’ Train departs to Riga Central with a jam session on board. More info can be found at www.jazzfest.lv 4. 2009 – 2011. Latvian Blues video showcase. The Society continuously works on a promotion of local blues artists. During the last two years each band was professionally filmed and the video showcase, representing the whole Latvian blues scene was created. All the expenses were covered by the Society. More info can be found at www.youtube.com/latblues 5. 2011. I National Blues Contest. Annual long-term event during February – July. The contest runs in 3 stages – preliminary stage; semi-finals; finals. The winner will participate in the European Blues Challenge in Germany, promoted by European Blues Union.
